In this screencast, we are going to learn about how to install Python on our local machine. Some operating systems such as the Mac OSX come preinstalled with Python. To find out if you already have Python installed you can fire up your terminal and type in python.


Python is a powerful and fun language that can be used for creating games, building web and software applications, it is used in statistical analysis, data visualization, financial analysis, data science, machine learning, and the list goes on. According to the Python Website "Python is used successfully in thousands of real-world business applications around the world, including many large and mission critical systems." Source. There are two different versions of this programming language; Python2, and Python3. I this tutorial we are going to be installing the latest version, which, as of this writing is version 3.7.2. Python can be installed on any operating system, it is free, open source and can be downloaded from here. You will need to have a way to manage different versions of Python and good practice is to use different environments for your different projects. There are several ways to manage different environments and versions of Python, I use Anaconda most of the time and you can download it from here.
