Anaconda is a free open source software tool and it comes with programming languages like Python and R; as well as the package manager Conda which you can read more about here. According to its Wikipedia page, Anaconda is used by over 6 million people, has over 1400 commonly used data science packages and it can be easily installed on most major operating systems. This tutorial continues from Episode #17, and here we learn how to use Conda to install and manage our Python environments and packages.


Download Anaconda here if you don't already have it installed on your local machine. There is also are free cheat sheet available here

Create your project

$ mkdir my_project

Enter into your project

$ cd my_project

View information on the current environment

$ conda info --envs

View a list of environments

$ conda env list

Use Conda to create your project

conda create -n my_project python=3.6.2 

Activate your project

$ conda activate my_project

**Install Django if needed

$ pip install django

Create a project

$ django-admin startproject my_project .

Create the database

$ python manage.py migrate

Fire up the server

$ python manage.py runserver

Create an app

$ python manage.py startapp my_app

View app in your browser

Stop Server


Deactivate Conda Environment

$ conda deactivate
